New to KRMC? Here's What You Need To Know To Hit The Ground Running

If you're not all too familiar with KRMC and just getting started or exploring, here are the basics for what you need to know to get you started. Feel free to contact us if you have any questions, or would like to discuss customization for your organization that would best fit your needs.

What is KRMC-Hosted?

KRMC is the acronym for the Kanguru Remote Management Console, and is Kanguru's exclusive, fully-integrated remote management platform for Kanguru Defender® hardware encrypted drives.

KRMC allows Administrators, Managers, and Security Officers to remotely manage, monitor, configure, provision and govern a fleet of secure drives in the workforce for their organization anywhere in the world.

KRMC does not have access to the data on Defender Encrypted Drives. The information is contained within the devices themselves. However, KRMC is a very powerful tool to enforce company security policies by monitoring device location, set tingup online and offline permissions, scheduling password changes, managing password strength and length, notifying users rolling out security policies, updates, and much more. KRMC also enables administrators to communicate with the Defender drives in the field.

The Difference Between Managed and Unmanaged Defender Drives

There is a distinction that needs to be understood between managed Kanguru Defender drives with Remote Management, and unmanaged drives.

Unmanaged Defender Drives

Kanguru Defender drives can operate as a stand-alone drive, with full encryption features without being managed by KRMC. The encryption and drive settings can all be managed within the drive itself using the onboard Command Console. However, if the drive is ever lost or stolen, or if the password is forgotten, the drive and the data locked within it may never be recovered. Note: In the case of a forgotten password, If the user has purchased Self Service Password Management (SSPM), a forgotten password can be easily reset.

Managed Defender Drives

With managed Defender drives connected to KRMC, if a secure drive were ever lost or stolen, an administrator can remotely disable, wipe, and possibly even locate the drive using KRMC.

There are many other advantages to a KRMC account. See About Remote Management for details.

Price Tier Chart

The first choice is to decide which price tier will work best for your organization. For SMBs and general sectors, Kanguru might recommend the Standard Account for beginner accounts which will provide most of the remote management security functions needed for security.

Understand the KRMC Permissions Hierarchy

With KRMC-Hosted structure, there is one Super Administrator who handles all permissions, security policies, and tasks, and controls the overall remote management process.

If using the Advanced or Premium price tier, the Super Administrator can select to have other administrators handle different groupings of users. These are called Regular Administrators.
